History of Cee-Jay Tool Company Stone Splitting Machines
The history of Cee-Jay Tool Company is one that captures the essence of America’s entrepreneurial spirit. Mr. Chris Jenkins, the company’s founder, identified a market that was not being served. As a result, he developed an innovative and commercially viable product; a hydraulic stone splitting machine called the Chris Cutter.

Mr. Jenkins’ vision of the natural fit of hydraulic power for splitting stone, coupled with his intense desire to succeed, resulted in the development of the first fully hydraulic floating tooth stone splitting machinery.

The First Stone Splitter
Mr. Jenkins’ initial idea was developed in the late 1930’s. A full decade later, in 1949, Mr. Jenkins began construction of the first prototype machine. In 1950, the first 4 foot wide by 8 inch fully-hydraulic floating tooth stone splitter was sold to Missouri Native Stone in Kansas City. Chris Jenkins spent the next six years in Kansas City developing the technological foundation of the Chris Cutter.

Cee-Jay Tool Company relocated from Kansas City to Lyons, Colorado, to better serve the growing stone industry in the Rocky Mountain region. The Chris Cutter was officially introduced to the industry at the International Cut Stone Contractors and Quarryman’s Association Trade Show in Las Vegas in 1956.

The Chris Cutter was heralded as a “cutter with touch”. It was the only mechanized stone cutter to date that was capable of consistently cutting stone less than 1-inch thick into 2-inch wide strips.

Cee-Jay Tool Company sold six Chris Cutters as a result of the exposure from the Las Vegas Trade Show. In October 1956, Mr. Jenkins received a patent (US patent 2,768,620) for the innovative technology used on the Chris Cutter.

Cee-Jay Tool Company was purchased from Mr. Jenkins in 1996. Operations were relocated to a new, larger facility. State-of-the-art manufacturing equipment has been constantly integrated to enable us to improve quality, engineering, service and insure timely deliveries.
